River Frome

Friday 5th October

Had a few hours on the Frome in the first swim on the stretch before the copse. I fished a paternoster rig with a dinsmores 1/4oz feederbomb to a 3lb 6oz hooklength, with a size 12 hook. Breadflake was the choice for bait. A few good fish were topping, and as it was getting dark, a walloping take resulted in a lively scrap with an immaculate chub weighing 3lb 11oz.

Unfortunately the batteries in my camera died, and the "freshly charged" spares proved to be duds. They must have been recharged loads, they were pretty old, so don't charge anymore. Boooo!

Oh well! Off to the Wye again on Sunday, so had better go better prepared... You never know!

Hi Rob

Ive just joined Frampton Angling Club and I'm going to try the stretch tomorrow by the canal. Theres a lovely looking swim that runs down to a big willow and it looks very chubby.

I'll lt you know how I get on

Hi daddyruffe,

The one with the pallet is a good one if that's the one you mean. The Copse is the little wood upstream.

Had a fascinating morning on the River Frome (Copse section). Started in the pallet swim with small drennan swim feeder and maggots and cheese hookbailts.
Couple of tentative plucks on maggot.
Put off a bit by a couple of walkers who were bemoaning the decline in the river. Both talked about the good old days and gave me the impression that the river rarely delivers these days. Both put it down to cormorants.

Anyway I tried the copse section which is pretty unique as a habitat from my experience of River fishing.

Ended fishless but had great fun getting a lump of cheese under some very chubby looking rafts. Couple of gentle plucks that didn't develop into full bites.

I'll be back as its a lovely stretch and I love a challenge.

Whats worked best for you Rob?

Rich
